Whitley Bay Press

I created a school magazine using the codes and conventions of a typical school magazine, where i created a front and contents page. As a school magazine the text is formal following the codes and conventions for a school magazine. There is a scheme for the font. Like existing school magazine 'Evolve' it is all in big bold lettering so it stands out to the audience, it is simplistic so should be easy to read. However, I thought the text was more difficult to read in places due to the busy background of the school, behind the model, therefore in the future for my music magazine I plan to use a model standing in front of a simpler background so the text stands out more effectively. It follows a colour scheme so the overall image is not too busy and makes it more assessable for the audience to process the information and the image. The model in the main image, which dominates the cover, is a girl of about 17, the age of a 6th former. The mise en scene of her clothes suggests her age and establishes, typically, the students at Whitley Bay high school. i used a close up so her face would be attention grabbing. The sub images, for example the school logo illustrates in the magazine the identity of the school. Another sub image shows another Whitley bay high student in the school common room, giving an insight to what the school looks like inside. She is also studying, to contextualize the sub heading. i added an advert for the schools production of 'Romeo and Juliet' too demonstrate the schools extra curricular activities, which i thought was effective and intend to use the same technique of advertising perhaps other music bands and gigs in my music magazine as it may give it more depth and authenticity.
on my contents page i used the same font as the one on my front cover to continue with the scheme. the text highlight the topics in the magazine. The page numbers was a detail i would also use in my music magazine as i thought it gave a more authentic look. i still thought my contents page was too simple, so for my school magazine i intend to used a more image dominated contents page, too make in more appealing to the audience, however still using the appropriated amount of text.

A digital camera was used for the photos so I could experiment with zoom and focus and flash. I experimented with design for the magazine, with cropping and arranging my photos, where I also learned useful ways of doing this without stretching of giving the photo an 'swashed' look I used a scenery setting and adjusted the white balance to achieve a natural light both outside and inside, which was much more effective when highlighting certain facial features on the model. when you want a more flawless effect more artificial lighting could be used and manipulated the image on Photoshop in the way the photographer would require would also help achieve this. in my music magazine i intend to use Photoshop to give my photos a more professional and polished look.
